Baby teeth
From approximately six months to two years of age your child will experience the eruption of all 20 baby teeth: four incisors, two canines and four molars - a set of each on top and bottom. They do not all erupt at once, but in pairs at different points in time. Usually the incisors in the middle erupt first and the molars last. The other teeth erupt at different stages
What should I expect when my baby is teething?
During this period, your child may display some signs and symptoms of teething, usually four days before a tooth erupts, the day of eruption and the following three days. Signs of teething include: increased biting, drooling, sucking, and gum rubbing, facial rash, decreased appetite, irritability, wakefulness, ear rubbing, and mild temperature elevation.

A high or persistent fever is NOT a sign of teething, but a symptom of a serious illness. Contact your doctor immediately if you child has a fever.

To soothe the pain of teething, let your baby bite on something solid. We recommend a teether (MAM product range) filled with liquid, a cold washcloth, or the massage part of the MAM Teach Me Toothbrush. Increasing fluid intake and non-aspirin analgesics may also help comfort your child during teething.
Caring for the baby teeth
Even though baby teeth will eventually fall out, it is important to keep them healthy until the permanent teeth come in. Baby teeth are important “place holders” for permanent teeth and play a major role in your child’s speech development. Also, decay in baby teeth can transfer to permanent teeth and lead to long-term dental problems.
Permanent teeth
TEETH STRUCTURE
Around six years of age, the first permanent molars appear behind the second baby molars. There are no baby molars in their place, so often they are not even noticed. By 14 years of age, all 28 permanent teeth will have erupted. The last to erupt are the second molars. The permanent teeth consist of: four front teeth, two canines, four small and four big molars- a set of each in the upper and lower jaw. The four wisdom teeth will take several more years to finally erupt.
